The 4 Different Types of a House Cleaning Business
Advice on setting up a house cleaning business

<< Home
A home cleaning business is one of the easiest and affordable home businesses there is to start.
But did you know that there are 4 different types of home cleaning businesses?
However, the outcome of your choice should be dependant on your budget and skills.
There are four main types of cleaning services available:
- Independent Cleaners
- An Agency
- Companies
- Cleaning Franchises
An Independent Cleaner
This is where you are the sole cleaner and you do your advertising and cleaning alone.
It's a great quick and easy way to get started and earning money. However remember that if you are sick or cannot clean
for whatever reason, you won't get paid.
An Agency
A house cleaning agency is where you are the manager and you hire local cleaners to do the cleaning for you. You don't employ
the cleaners as they act as self-employed and you are merely the agency that provides and manages the cleaning service. You will be paid a
percentage of the cost of the clean. For example, if you charged £10.00 per hour clean, then your cleaner would get £7.00 and you keep the £3.00
for the agency fee.
So if you can imagine having a couple of dozen cleaners working for you, that's quite a few £4s per hour coming your
way!
Cleaning Company
This is where the professionalsim shines through. They shout out that they are professional, trustworthy and that you provide
an excellent service. You 'employ' cleaners by paying their weekly wages through BACS. You will be the management of the company and will run
every aspect of the business.
Since you are a company and provide trustworthiness and a top service, you will charge higher rates than any of the other types
of services. This equals to larger profit margins!
A Franchisee
You could go down the route of a franchise if you feel that you want to run a cleaning company or agency but haven't got the
knowledge or skills to do it on your own.
But be aware that you have to pay a large (£8,000+) joining fee, then you need a few thousand for set-up costs and you will
always be paying the franchise company a percentage of your profits.
So there you have it, the four different types of a residential cleaning business. You could always start of small and build
your business up as you learn and grow your confidence and skills.
