Dealing With Panic Attacks - Cool Down And Keep Your Focus Elsewhere
Dealing with panic attacks are important if you don´t want to endanger your health. Every victim of these attacks has their own way of solving the problem. From their own experiences and lifestyles they take various cues and deal with the problem as it best fits them. There are different methods and techniques out there that can be effective in stopping an attack.
Initially, the best way to go about dealing with panic attacks are to locate the root of the problem. You may feel highly panicky on a particular day while on other days the feeling may not be so strong. But you should reflect back on each preceding attack and try to figure out the warning signs and what exactly triggered them.
Knowing the root causes that trigger these attacks keep you on the watch and you get early warning signals before they start happening. Sometimes the attacks can be so strong and the phobia so severe that people think they are experiencing a heart attack and are about to die. Usually symptoms are like those experienced during heart stoppages. The heart doesn’t stop that way and the more you fear such a situation occurring the more panicky you get.
Dealing with panic attacks require you to take full control of your respiration. If breathing is allowed to race without you maintain any control over it, then you will be gripped with the feeling that your airways are getting choked. Even though your respiration never stops during the panic attack process, you have a feeling that you are gasping for breath. It is a vicious cycle when panic attacks happen. The more you fear, the faster your heart keeps pounding and the more you try to overcome fear, your breathing gets worse.
But you have to take the bull by the horns and just eliminate all thoughts and fears about your heart stopping and airways getting choked. If you can take charge of your breathing, you will automatically become calm and a sensation of relief will descend. Soon your breathing will get normal and the gasping sensation will go away.
Another way to deal with these attacks is change your thinking process. You should be mentally strong enough and practice changing your thoughts as soon as the root cause of panic clutches you. The further you move away mentally from a panicky situation the easier it would be to get over it.
Dealing with panic attacks effectively is learning to overcome a sudden rush of terror that leads to problems in respiration and a feeling of giddiness, nausea and stomach churning. The pounding of the heart is usually mistaken for a heart attack signal and the more we get concerned with it the more our respiration rate increases. It can happen anywhere…while you are driving or going up in an elevator. Try to breathe as normally as possible.
Don’t keep your emotions to yourself and try to lighten up by sharing with your near and dear ones, your family, friends, relatives or co-workers. Focus your mind away from the situation and listen to some soft soulful music as a way of dealing with panic attacks.
