This article is mainly for those who run their own house cleaning service.  You're probably aware of how hectic it gets once you start to get many customers, so producing a house cleaning checklist for each of your customers' requirements is a good practice to do from the beginning.

You should keep a file on each individual customer to know exactly what their requirements are, then you can adapt a house cleaning schedule around their specific needs.

Here's a short list of what you should keep in a customer file:

Name & Address
Telephone numbers
Weekly/Bi-Weekly Clean
Keyholding Service: yes/no
Special Instructions

You will find that the majority of customers only want a bi-weekly clean (every two weeks).  Therefore they will have priorities of where they want their cleaner to clean when he/she visits.

Most people try and keep on top of their house cleaning on a daily basis, so they want cleaners to do the rooms/areas that they either don't have time to clean or cannot physically do themselves.

You can get this information by talking to the customer first, or you could ask them to fill in the house cleaning checklist themselves.  Then you will know exactly which room or what area needs addressing on a priority basis.

Example form:

House Cleaning Schedule For: Thursday 4 March

Area Priority One Priority Two

Dining Area X

Downstairs WC X

You will also find with some customers that their priorities change from week to week.  To get around this you could leave a blank house cleaning schedule with the customer when you have finished a clean.  Then when you return for the next clean, whether than be a week or two weeks later, then you can just follow from their updated checklist.

It doesn't have to be complicated.  You have enough different things to think about as it is, so keep a copy of the house cleaning checklist on your PC and print off many copies and you will readily have them to hand to give to your customers for their next clean.
